Monday is Memorial Day, a day of remembrance. The last Monday in May, it's a Federal holiday, a day off work as offices are closed, a day with sales at the mall, and a day to gather with family and friends for an outdoor barbecue to celebrate the start of summer. But Memorial Day is much more than that - it is first and foremost a day to remember all the American servicemen and women who have lost their lives while serving our country.
Not all of us have lost a family member in service, but we all know someone who has -- someone who finds the day very meaningful -- who remembers not just on Memorial Day, but everyday.
We will enjoy the day. There will be parades and picnics. We may sleep late, clean out the garage, plant flowers and do any number of other household chores, but let's all take a moment to remember what the day is all about. Let's remember and be thankful for those who gave their all.
